The Blue Zones Challenge: A 4-week Plan for a Longer, Better Life

The Blue Zones Challenge: A 4-week Plan for a Longer, Better Life

Dan Buettner is an American National Geographic Fellow and a New York Times bestselling author. As an explorer, educator, author, producer, storyteller, and public speaker Dan co-produced an Emmy Award winning documentary. It is thanks to Dan Buettner and a team of colleagues that the Blue Zones were discovered and documented. In the span of about eight years research was conducted that resulted in five pockets around the world being exhibited for their outstanding longevity. These zones, now denominated Blue Zones are:

  • Okinawa, Japan
  • Ikaria, Greece,
  • Sardinia, Italy,
  • Loma Linda, California
  • Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica

Dan is the founder of Blue Zones LLC, and the Blue Zones Project which is helping transform communities across North America into healthier and longer-lived communities by adopting the Blue Zones diet and lifestyle. This diet and lifestyle are based around the eating patterns of the longest-lived people on earth, the centenarians living in the Blue Zones around the world.

The Blue Zones way of life is not just healthy eating

In the coming weeks Dan will be releasing a new book to complement the other Blue Zones books already published. This book will challenge you to make changes in your life ranging from your diet to your social life and living spaces. The best way to improve your life is to have a solid foundation and with this book we will challenge you to improve yourself and become the best version of you. While a healthy diet can and does help the way people have lived in the Blue Zones includes an active lifestyle in a less intense and more easy-going way. It is centred also around having the right social life with the right people. The physical activity is constant but not exhaustive, instead of training hard in a gym every day it’s more about constant but gentle moving around, walking a lot and taking the time to unwind and relax. By committing to a Blue Zones way of life you’re not only changing your diet, but also updating your living spaces, building up your social life, and increasing your physical activity.
